So this is Christmas?

As I came into the Christmas season, I couldn’t help hearing this song in my head over and over and over again.
“So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun”
Now I am not a huge John Lennon fan, but those words would not depart from my mind. I really do not like when that happens. It even wakes me up at night. So I started thinking….
So this is Christmas. The hustle and bustle, the rudeness of people to get a parking spot you sat patiently waiting for. The stress of ensuring everyone gets something from you. The worries over will they even like the gift or not. The cleaning, cooking, preparing, hosting, planning, shopping, decorating, traveling, and visiting we all go through at Christmas. So this is Christmas? No wonder why we “lose” Jesus during the festivities. We can (me included) can get so “caught up” in the festivities, that we leave Jesus behind and really forget about Him all together. Has Christmas become “stressmas”? When all this starts to happen, I allow my mind to go back to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” when Charlie Brown asks the simple question “Doesn’t anyone know what Christmas is all about?’ Linus then steps on the scene and quotes for all to hear the true Christmas story we find in the bible in Luke chapter 2verses 1 – 20. Don’t you just love level headed Linus, maybe we need more like him in the world right now. Yes that is Christmas. A time to remember the gift God sent to all mankind. God in the flesh, Emmanuel (which being interpreted is, God with us). Yes that is Christmas, a time not to catch up or out do “the Jones”, but a time of good tidings of great joy (Joy to the world the Lord is come). A time of peace on earth and good will to men. A time for kindness and not rudeness, a time for togetherness and not strife, and a time for LOVE and not hate. A time when families should sit and reflect on how blessed we truly are to have one another for one more Christmas. Don’t you know those in Newton Connecticut would love to have just one more Christmas! (My heart still aches for those families.)
So let me wrap up this blog (so hopefully this song will depart from my head) with so this is Christmas, what have you done? Another year older and a new one begun. Only you can answer the question of what have you done, because that is a personal question. I know I haven’t done everything I promised God and others I would do. If I graded myself over this past year I would give myself a C minus or D plus and that still may be too high. “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalms 90:12 (KJV)
Yes I am another year older and this New Year is 6 days away. I cannot change this past year for it is behind me, but I can press forward to the high calling of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:13-14) May God Bless you all in the coming year and may this be the year for you and I to serve God with the fervent heart we always promise Him we will when He gets us out of the messes we get into.
So this is Christmas and………..
